Getting started at BMRB

  1. Change your login password: open the terminal (e.g. right-click on the desktop anywhere and choose open terminal from the menu) and type passwd at the prompt. You will be asked for your old password, and then for the new password twice. Note that neither password is echoed back, you won't see what you're typing.
  2. Annotators: change your ETS password. In the terminal type ets, login, then in ETS User menu choose change passwd.
  3. Set up mail account in thunderbird: because they change their account setup wizard with every update,
    1. account type is IMAP,
    2. enter your name, BMRB e-mail, etc.
    3. click through to the point where there is Manual setup button and hit that,
    4. then enter these settings
  4. Subscribe yourself to the internal mailing lists.
      1. Type in your e-mail address and hit subscribe.
      2. You will receive a confirmation request via e-mail. Just reply to that e-mail and you will be subscribed. (You'll receive another message confirming your subscriptiom after that.)
    1. BMRB-everybody: http://lists.bmrb.wisc.edu/mailman/listinfo/bmrb-everybody – this is BMRB-office plus several other people all over the world.
      1. Type in your e-mail address and hit subscribe.
      2. You will receive a confirmation request via e-mail. Just reply to that e-mail and you will be subscribed. (You'll receive another message confirming your subscriptiom after that.)
    2. Annotators: subscribe to annotators list at https://lists.bmrb.wisc.edu/mailman/listinfo/annotators.
      1. Type in your e-mail address and hit subscribe.
      2. You will receive a confirmation request via e-mail. Just reply to that e-mail and you will be subscribed. (You'll receive another message confirming your subscriptiom after that.)
